GHS Cheerleaders to hold car wash

Have you ever wanted a cheerleader to wash your car? Well, now’s your chance.
On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Grove High School Cheerleaders will be having a car wash at Advance Auto Parts in Paris from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The car wash will be a fundraiser so that the cheerleaders will be able to pay off all other expenses and anything else they would like to do.
During the car wash, donations and all advance tickets will be accepted. If you would like to buy a ticket ahead of time, the cheerleaders will have them for $5 each.
“I think with the car wash being held during school that we will have a good turnout from students and their families,” said Kaylee Clark, captain of the 2007-08 Grove Cheerleaders.
Kaylee and the rest of the cheerleaders have high hopes and definitely want to see you there.

SPRING BREAK!!!!

The kids at E.W. Grove High School are getting ready for sping break. I think they will have fun up here in Henry.CO, maybe before school lets out, we can talk the teachers into taking us on a field trip. If they take us on a field trip it will probably be at good old Kentucy Lake. There is good fresh air and fun in the sun. Spring break will give us kids some time to relax before the gateway test comes.

Students Make a Difference

Filed under: General on Monday, May 7th, 2007 by Jennifer | Comments Off

Students at Grove received free t-shirts by contributing to society by learing C.P.R. Throughtout the year, students were learning about their bodies and their health in the wellness classes. Coach Cliff Curd and Mr. Buddy Wiggelton took a few class days to let the students learn C.P.R. Instructors from Henry County Medical Center took a few of their, “vacation days”, to help the students learn Cardio Pulminary Resusitation. The Volunteer nurses were Lujan Meketi, Natile Huffine, Christie Glass, Jackie Wyatt, and Mrs. Angie Dotson, who have all become registered nurses. Also, they received help from Stephanie Winders, coordinated School Health Program for Henry County Schools. Mrs. Winders helped with the check offs at the end of the sessions, to make sure the students have completed the C.P.R class.

Dangers and Benefits of Tanning

Filed under: General on Monday, May 7th, 2007 by Jessica S | Comments Off

Most people, students and adults, enjoy tanning in tanning beds and laying out all day at the pool. After all, you look great, feel great, and get pampered! While most of us enjoy going out to the spa and coming back feeling rejuveinated and looking like we just got back from the Bahamas, tanning can also have some negative side effects…

While your skin looks all great and healthy on the outside, underneath it can be real ugly. Scientists don’t need to prove that tanning causes irrregularities to your skin, because people who tanned as teens and continued through their life, know that their skin got more wrinkled faster than their friends who didn’t.

Tanning also causes skin cancer. Solar rays and ultra violet lights damage your skin pigment and eventually, after many years, will make you turn out looking like living beef jerkey! So if you tan frequently and your skin looks good now, it won’t in a few years when you need surgery to remove all that cancer.

Now, if you go tanning every once in a while, or only tan like right before prom or something, then you’ll probabally be ok! Tanning can be fun if you do it responsibly and don’t become addicted. You can also tan safely by going in a tanning bed before the pool, so you don’t get sunburned, and then putting lotion on. Sun tan lotion doesn’t keep you from tanning, it keeps you from burning. Personally, I don’t tan, but a lot of my friends do, and they look cute! Remember not to get too carried away though!

What happened to snow in Tennessee?

Filed under: General on Monday, May 7th, 2007 by Zach | Comments Off

Remember those days in Tennessee when it snowed three inches across half the state? The kids would bundle up, go out and build snowmen; all the schools in the county were closed. Well, I’m sure we all wonder why Tennessee doesn’t get that kind of snow anymore. These days when people watch the weather and the meteorologist predicts snow; I question that statement.

By now, I figured out half the time they are wrong. The most we got this season was some flurries and a dusting toward the far east.

Why is all this happening? Well, I can tell you why. When the low pressure passes near us or to our north, it will usually take most of the moisture with it before the cold air gushes in behind it. So there are days when the forecast calls for snow, just know they might not really know what they are talking about.

An average day at Grove

Filed under: General on Wednesday, April 25th, 2007 by Zach | Comments Off

Grove is a busy place during an average school day. When students arrive they either go to the auditorium or the lunch room. Some students go to early morning tutoring. Recently, students have been encouraged to participate in early morning walking in the gym. When the bell rings people are dismissed from those places, then they go to their lockers and class. You get five minutes to get from class to class. If you’re late there are consequences. Grove offers many classes, there is anything from algebra to drivers ed, and theater arts. There are four lunch blocks during third block classes. At lunch, they offer a main course, two side dishes, and a desert.

During last block classes, the place is even busier. People are returning from lunch, going to class, getting on buses to go to the high school and more. Grove dismisses at 3:25 and everybody gets on their buses. There are usually about five or six buses outside waiting. The Grove kids are then shuttled over to the high school to go home.

Paper Making

“Making your own paper.” This is what students in Mrs. Lewis’s English class got the chance to learn.

After reading a story called Dragonsong, which depicts a time when paper was very hard to come by because it took so long to make, the students got the chance to experience the paper-making process for themselves.

Tighter Dresscode

Filed under: General on Thursday, March 15th, 2007 by ZachC | Comments Off

The Board of Education has tightened up the dresscode. They have done this because too many people have violated the dresscode as it is. There, apparently, were too many girls wearing shorts and skirts that were shorter than the allowed length. There were also people wearing pants with holes too high above the knees. So, Dr.Rockhold said that pants with holes above the knees are no longer allowed. He has also said that skirts must be no shorter than two inches above the knees. There are to be no piercings, other than in your ears, that are visible. This means there are to be no lip, nose, eyebrow,or tongue rings of any kind that you can see. There are also not supposed to be any more baggy pants.

If anyone breaks these rules, on any occasion, they are to be sent home to change clothes or they will be given ductape to cover the hole in their jeans. If the student has a piercing that they are not supposed to have, they will be given something to cover it. People have different opinions about the dresscode, but Dr.Rockhold and all the faculty will make sure that it is upheld.
